EXTREMELY RARE HUGE VERMONT 1924 GEOLOGICAL SURVEY MAP COPPER PRINTING PLATE CAMEL’S HUMP AREA - LAMOILLE - CHITTENDEN - WASHINGTON COUNTIES - STOWE - WATEBURY - ETC. CIRCA 1924
$1,295.00 USD Extremely rare find, an important, 21 inch by 17 inch, 1924 hand engraved United States Geological Surey printing plate of the Camel’s Hump area and the Green Mountains of Vermont, including Lamoille, Chittenden, and Washington County, Stowe, Waterbury, Burlington, Richmond, Underhill, Jericho, Bolton, Duxbury, Fayston, Huntington, Starksboro, Moretown, Milton, Hyde Park, Mount Mansfield, Montpelier, Middlebury, Barre, Lincoln Mountain, etc.
So sorry for the glare on the 1st photo. So hard to photograph this, like photographing a mirror. The individual photos, which are many, give you better detail and condition value.
We reversed the photos on the detailed ones so that you could read the map properly. This is an edition of 1924 reprinted 1928 with two lines through the 28. From researching online we found that 15 different maps were produced for Vermont and the U. S. G. S. disposed of these copper plates in the 1950’s, replacing them with filming.
The plate is heavy, weighing about 10 pounds and is 3/16 of an inch thick.
This plate was purchased from an estate near Ludlow, Vermont and was being used as a coffee table under glass.
The copper plate engraving is crisp and could be used for reprinting of this area.
This map, due to the hand engraving, even in its day was terribly expensive to have made and would make a great center piece for any map collector or historian as the map was done before the 1927 flood.
It is in nice condition, with some normal staining and scratches. One scratch is 9" long and another 5" long. We do not polish any copper, letting the purchaser use their own judgment according to their individual taste.
